AAGS Welcomes New Researchers
Spotlight on William Gibson

It’s always a pleasure to have visitors attend our meetings. In July 2006, one of our visitors was William Gibson. Though born and raised in Cleveland, his maternal roots are in Alabama (Lee County and Chambers County). William’s paternal grandmother is from Nansemond County, Virginia; and paternal grandfather is from Nassau, Bahamas. Oral history from elders, censuses, death certificates and marriage records have thus far resulted in tracing ancestry three to four generations.

Surnames: King, Faulk, and Copeland in Nansemond County, VA
Gibson and Neely in Nassau, Bahamas
Pinkard, Hugley, Murphy, McCulloh, and Dunn, Lee & Chambers Counties, AL

Mr. Gibson has been researching for less than a year and takes advantage of Ancestry.com from home. William commented, “I’ve got just about everything I can locally. Now I’m entering a new phase, and will have to go to different states and different libraries ad historical societies to get more information.” He also expressed an interest in joining AAGS.

We’re glad that William came to see what we’re all about and hope to be of assistance to him and other new researchers as they journey to their “next phase.”
